Task Forces

The task forces of the Wake Forest DRC share the same overall goal of revitalization. They are run by volunteers who accomplish items on their Program of Work. The four task forces are: Design & Appearance, Economic Restructuring, Events and Marketing & Promotions.

Design & Appearance Task Force

CHAIR: Jeff Adolphsen jeff.adolphsen@ncmail.net

The goal of this task force is to enhance the visual quality of downtown. Attention is given to the downtown environment elements—not just buildings and storefronts but also public improvements, rear entries, signs, landscaping, window displays and graphic materials.

FACADE IMPROVEMENT GRANT PROGRAM: The Wake Forest DRC is pleased to offer Façade Improvement Grants. Individual grants of up to $5,000 are available to property owners or business owners who rehabilitate the exterior of their building. Eligible properties must be located within the Renaissance Area Historic Core as designated by the Town of Wake Forest’s zoning ordinance. A total of $15,000 has been earmarked for this program. Grants are subject to availability of remaining monies and the quality of the proposed work.
For more information about Façade Improvement Grants, contact Maggie O'Neill or download the
Façade Improvement Grant Application.

PROGRAM OF WORK: To see current projects of this task force with updates on progress download the Design and Appearance Program of Work.

MEETINGS: Every third Thursday of the month, 8 a.m., at the Wake Forest DRC office. New members welcome.

Economic Restructuring Task Force

CHAIR: John Shoemaker (919) 562-8867

The goal of this task force is to strengthen the existing economic assets of the business district while diversifying its economic base. Activities include conducting market analysis to understand the changing marketplace, adapting vacant buildings that have outlived their original purposes for use as entertainment or cultural facilities and sharpening the competitiveness of Main Street's traditional merchants.

MEETINGS: Every second Tuesday of the month, 8 a.m., at The Forks Cafeteria. New members welcome.

Marketing and Promotions Task Force

CHAIR: Nancy Bolts boltsey@aol.com

The goal of this task force is to reestablish downtown as a compelling place for shoppers, investors and visitors. This means not only improving sales but also rekindling community excitement and involvement. Promotion ranges from street festivals to retail merchandising, from community education to marketing and public relations.

PROGRAM OF WORK: To see current projects of this task force with updates on progress download the Marketing and Promotions Program of Work.

MEETINGS: Every first Thursday of the month, 3 p.m., at the Wake Forest DRC office. New members welcome.

Events Task Force
