Task Forces

The task forces of the Wake Forest DRC share the same overall goal of revitalization. They are run by volunteers who accomplish items on their Program of Work. The four task forces are: Design & Appearance, Economic Restructuring, Events and Marketing & Promotions.

Design & Appearance Task Force

The goal of Design and Appearance is to faciliate and encourage the preservation of the historic appearance of Downtown Wake Forest and imporve the physical appearance of the Renaissance Area. The objective is to perserve and enhance the unique characteristics of Downtown Wake Forest and to build the visual unity and connectivity in the Renaissance Area.

STRATEGIES: 1.) Communicate and garner support for streetscape improvements. 2.) Foster designs that enhance the unique architectural character of each individual building. 3.) Advocate for district development and redevelopment that is consistent with the vision for Downtown. 4.) Develop Phase Two of the Wayfinding Plan.
 
PROGRAM OF WORK:
> Research Funding Opportunities for the South White Street Streetscape Enhancement Project
> Continue and expand SEP communications with stakeholders
> Facilitate Facade Improvement Grants
> Create Facade Improvement Redevelopment Program including development of conseptual drawings for targeted properties
> Hold historic property workshop
> Create educational materials regarding historic tax credits
> Participate in Wait Street redevelopment by creating implementation plan
> Identify pedestrian access greenspace
> Identify streescape improvemnt of the future
> Implement Phase Two of Wayfinding Program
 
FACADE IMPROVEMENT GRANT PROGRAM: The Wake Forest DRC is pleased to offer Façade Improvement Grants. Individual grants of up to $5,000 are available to property owners or business owners who rehabilitate the exterior of their building. Eligible properties must be located within the Renaissance Area Historic Core as designated by the Town of Wake Forest’s zoning ordinance. A total of $15,000 has been earmarked for this program. Grants are subject to availability of remaining monies and the quality of the proposed work.

Economic Restructuring Task Force

The goal of Economic Restructuring Task Force is to retain and expand Downtown Wake Forest in a manner consistent with its small town charm.  The objective is to achieve a healthy downtown environment.
 
STRATEGIES: 1.) Solicit more private developers/investors/business owners to attract more traffic-generating businesses. 2.) Encourage business development consistent with the Renaissance Plan through the development of business incentives.  3.) Maintain and provide relevant and accurate business and property data for Downtown.
 
PROGRAM OF WORK:
> Host development tour/forum
> Create business recruitment packets
> Create tear sheet and elevator speech for Downtown Wake Forest
> Attend regional networking opportunties to build contacts
> Perform monthly business inventories for new and closed businesses
> Create monthly Economic Development Reports for Downtown Wake Forest
> Maintain and expand Downtown Database
> Monitor traffic by performing traffic counts
> Conduct biannual surveys of the business owners to measure progress of redevelopment

Marketing and Promotions Task Force

The goal of Marketing and Promotions is to attract more people to Downtown Wake Forest and to tell the Wake Forest Downtown Revitalization Corporation's story.  The objective is to increase business and investment in Downtown Wake Forest. 
 
STRATEGIES: 1.) Continue to create a unified visual message for Downtown. 2.) Continue and expand ways to tell the Downtown and the Wake Forest DRC's Story. 3.) Improve website optimization; develop tagline and promote Wake forest Downtown Revitalization Corporation's message.  4.) Invest human and financial resources in existing and/or potential events that are consistent with the Wake Forest DRC mission and vision.
 
PROGRAM OF WORK:
> Develop brand standards for Wake Forest Downtown
> Create a unified rack card system
> Develop marketing plan for Wake Forest Downtown
> Continue Welcome Boxes and bags
> Create annual report to highlight accomplishments of Downtown and the Wake Forest DRC
> Develop media guide, press kit, and press release plan
> Continue to produce and publish Downtown Matters (monthly) and Discover Downtown (weekly) to promote the downtown area to the general public
> Maintain a current on-line calendar of downtown events and communicate with the media on any news or upcoming events.
> Create a unified communications plan regarding issues pertaining to the Wake Forest DRC
> Intergrate social media
> Develop Wake Forest Downtown Revitalization Corporation marketing plan
> Hold annual meeting to celebrate Wake Forest DRC and Downtown's accomplishments
> Continue to coordiante established Wake Forest DRC events and expand as financially feasible
> Assist with partner agencies to support downtown events
> Review and carry out 'smaller' monthly events

Organization Task Force

The goal of Organization Task Force is expand the human and finacial resources and investment in Downtown Wake Forest.  The objective is to increase activity, involvement, and investment in Downtown Wake Forest.
 
STRATEGIES: 1.) Diversify funding by pursuing both public and private investment opportunities in order to achive the Wake Forest DRC Plan of Work.  2.) Review and develop best practices for solid nonprofit operations.  3.) Stengthen and develop partnerships between stakeholder organizations.
 
PROGRAM OF WORK:
> Define comprehensive annual giving program for Wake Forest DRC for individuals and businesses, and identify fiancial benefits.
> Conduct research and prepare grant and foundation applications to accomplish the Wake Forest DRC plan of work
> Recommend revisions to the by-laws in accordance with good nonprofit standards
> Create standard operating procedures for daily functions
> Perform Board member training and annual retreat
> Create and implement a procedure for Board member recruitment
> Provide regular updates to Wake Forest Board of Commissioners
> Participate in appropriate taskforce and committees as needed
> Facilitate monthly merchant meetings
> Participate in monthly Community Council
